I've done a lot of research, it I think the problem might be that my motherboard's chipset will use part of the memory address for other uses such as graphics card memory, and BIOS memory and so forth, but I don't think this should add up to 1.5 gigs!
The Bios was recently reset after a failed oveclocking attempt (this was before I installed the new memory, and I'm positive it's unrelated). It is also the latest BIOS update available from ASUS.
