The Citizen of the Year award recognizes an outstanding community member who embodies love of the Monterey Peninsula over many years, has made a positive impact on the business community, and demonstrates community leadership. The Ruth Vreeland Memorial Public Official of the Year is awarded to an individual, either elected or appointed, who embodies inspirational dedication to the community. The Robert C. Littlefield Award is presented to a chamber member who has shown extraordinary support through direct involvement in MPCC over many years. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce announced the selection of President of the Monterey County Business Council, May Ann Leffel as its 2013 Citizen of the Year; Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Kotowski as the 2013 Ruth Vreeland Memorial Public Official of the Year; and General Manager of the Sports Car Racing Association of Monterey Peninsula at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway, Gill Campbell, as the recipient of the 2013 Robert C. Littlefield Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Monterey County Farm Bureau and Central Coast Young Farmers and Ranchers offer scholarships to high school seniors and college students for the 2014 15 academic year. Students must have graduated from a Monterey County or San Benito County high school and plan to attend or are attending a university or community college, majoring in an agricultural curriculum. Salinas students make Miami University dean's list

The following local undergraduate students were named to the Arizona State University dean's list: Hanna Leeke, Salinas; Marshall Treleven, Gonzales, and Angel Zabel, Monterey.
High school juniors and seniors of Latino heritage are urged to apply for the John S. Martinez Leadership Scholarship. The award is offered by the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators to 11 students who reside in the district of a Hispanic state legislator. Salinas area students reside in state Assembly District 30, represented by Luis Alejo Jr., D Salinas. Each recipient will receive a one time $3,000 grant toward their higher education. The scholarship was established in honor of the late John S. Martinez, who served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and former president of the national organization. The application deadline is March 15.
Granite Construction has announced a $100,000 sponsorship, payable over three years, for the Rancho Cielo Construction Academy students. With headquarters in Watsonville, Granite Construction is one of the nation's largest infrastructure contractors and construction materials producers. Rancho Cielo's vision is to transform the lives of at risk youth and empower them to become accountable, competent, productive and responsible citizens. The RC Construction Academy graduated 34 at risk youth in 2013. Successful graduates retain employment or attend post secondary education. Farm discovery camps raising funds
The Live Earth Farm Discovery Program is raising scholarship money for its annual Farm Camps. This fifth season of summer camps will feature two new camps. Since 2009, the program has hosted small groups of underserved children for a week of Art on the Farm Camp along with a Leader in Training Program for teens. This year 6 to 12 year olds can attend a Young Farmer's Camp while 3 to 6 year olds can go to Sprouts Camp. The camps begin June 16. Monterey County residents are urged to participate.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available, which provide branding through event promotion, signage, program ads, and website presence. Tickets are $100 per person or $1,000 per table of ten. Space is limited.
Applications for the second annual Music Educator Award are online. The deadline is March 31. music teachers. Nominated teachers will be notified and invited to fill out an application. The award is offered The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. The Music Educator Award recognizes educators Fendi All In Tote from kindergarten to college who have made contribution to music education and who demonstrate a commitment to maintaining music education in the schools. The awardee receives a $10,000 honorarium. Nine finalists each receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists also received matching grants. The annual Awards Dinner is a chamber tradition celebrated for more than a century. It is expected to draw over 400 chamber members, local business people, and community leaders from throughout the region to recognize outstanding contributions to the community. Presented by Monterey County Bank, the program will feature live entertainment, award presentations, and a silent auction.
